Dr. Dan Miles PT, DPT, COMT

Dr. Dan received his doctorate in physical therapy from the University at Buffalo.  He went on to sharpen his manual and diagnostic skills by taking rigorous coursework and becoming a certified orthopedic manual therapist (COMT).  Dr. Dan is also a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) certified professional, so he can ensure that golfers get back on the course pain free, stronger, and more mobile than before. He has more than 10 years experience in outpatient physical therapy and has treated a diverse variety of problems – including sprained ankles, back pain, neck pain, hip pain, shoulder and knee ligament tears, and even non-orthopedic issues such as headaches and vertigo.

Sports and fitness have always been a big part of Dr. Dan's life. Growing up in an active family with four brothers, sports were played year-round.  Basketball, soccer, track and field, golf and volleyball filled his calendar throughout his academic career.  Training for each of those sports gave him a unique understanding of what it takes to prepare for a season and stay healthy.  Using this background in competitive sports combined with his physical therapy experience, Dr. Dan has helped athletes – at both amateur and professional levels – get back to dunking basketballs, hitting longer drives, throwing harder, and performing their best.  He currently resides in West Springfield with his wife and three kids.

What to expect

At Plyosport Physical Therapy we believe that your time is valuable.  You will always see a doctor of physical therapy, one-on-one, for a full hour each visit.  You'll never have to worry about your treatment time being shared with other patients as you usually see in other physical therapy clinics.  Treatment will begin on your first visit, so you can walk away with less pain, greater mobility, and an individualized treatment plan.  After each visit, we'll e-mail home exercises to you, so you can maintain and build on the gains you've made in our clinic.  That means – for most cases – you only need to come in to Plyosport once a week.

We are excited to announce that Plyosport Physical Therapy has moved to into it's own space.  Your initial evaluation and hands on therapy will be done in a private room.  You will then be guided through a comprehensive exercise program using the our own brand new gym space.  Whether you are a weekend warrior trying to get out on the basketball court, a youth athlete rehabbing for the next season, or just looking to get back to walking your dog, we have you covered.

Sometimes, a patient gets a hard cap on physical therapy visits from their insurance company, which leads a traditional practice to discharge that patient before he or she is actually ready to get back in the game.  At Plyosport, we'll be able to bridge that gap.  We offer golf, basketball and other sports performance therapy programs that take you from the end stages of rehab back to training with your coaches, personal trainers, golf pros, and teams.  Contact us about our sports performance therapy.

FAQ's

Do I need a prescription or doctor's referral to come see you?

In the state of Virginia doctors of physical therapy have direct access.  This means that you can come straight to Plyosport after an injury and then be treated for 30 days without a prescription.  After 30 days from the start of physical therapy you will need a prescription for physical therapy from your doctor.

Do you take my insurance?

Plyosport is not in network with insurance companies.  At Plyosport we have adopted a fee for service model that allows us to fully commit to you, one on one for your entire hour treatment time.  Care can be frustrating in the insurance model with rising co-pays, higher deductibles, shorter time with medical professionals and large bills months after service. At Plyosport payment is collected up front and there will never be surprise bills in the mail months later.

Can I submit a bill to my own insurance?

You will be given a superbill that can be submitted to your insurance for out of network benefits after you have paid for your visit.  Plyosport cannot guarantee that you will receive reimbursement through your insurance but most plans will provide some level of reimbursement.

What type of payments do you accept?

We accept cash, checks, credit/debit cards, and venmo.  Physical therapy is a service that you are able to use your HSA/FSA for as well.

What types of injuries/conditions do you treat?

Dr. Dan has successfully treated thousands of patients over the past 10 plus years with injuries ranging from back pain to complex post surgical tendon and ligament repairs.  Whether you are suffering from shoulder and knee pain or have stiffness in your back while trying to enjoy a hike there is a good chance we can help you.

What is sports performance therapy?

With sports performance therapy the goal is not just to return to your sport pain free.  You want to come back as a stronger more resilient athlete.  We'll help you build a foundation of strength and mobility to make sure you reduce the risk of re-injury.  Exercises and hands on techniques will be focused on building strength and mobility that will assist you in your specific sport.
